SMPS Washington DC honored with three distinguished awards at Build Business 2011

SMPS National and the city of Chicago welcomed SMPS DC with warmth and enthusiasm, as our group of 30+ Chapter members swooped into town excited about learning and connecting with the SMPS community at-large at Build Business 2011: The Bottom Line.

SMPS DC was truly impressed with the achievements of SMPS chapters nationwide, and by the efforts of the accomplished individuals leading the charge for their chapters. With such worthy peers, the DC Chapter was deeply honored to be recognized with three distinguished awards at this year’s gala:

President of the Year – Alison Carney, CPSM,
Balfour Beatty Construction

Alison Carney served as a champion and role model during this banner year for the DC Chapter. Leading through example, Alison set the standard for membership outreach by attending every event possible and utilizing social media to connect with new and existing members alike. Her efforts and energy resulted in increased membership, sponsorship, and growth in the Chapter’s financial reserves. Alison tirelessly led the DC Chapter with pride, intelligence, strength, professionalism, good sense and good humor. With Alison’s guidance, the Chapter has worked hard and with clear focus to initiate positive change, new growth and improvements that will lead to sustainable growth for the future. Award for Outstanding Website

With growth in mind, the Chapter made the redesign of the website a strategic goal in 2010, and is pleased to be recognized for both the design and content of the new site. Built on the WordPress platform, the new smpsdc.org enables the SMPS DC board to maintain and build on the site without possessing any coding knowledge, ensuring a smooth transition between successive leadership teams. Content on the site is kept fresh and unique with the help of blog managers and social media, and the site is scalable to meet the needs of a growing membership. Special thanks to Frankie Bailey of Frankie’s Folio, LLC for the design and development of the site.

The SMPS DC 2010/2011 Board accepts the Striving for Excellence Awards

SMPS Presents DC Chapter with Striving for Excellence Award for the third year in a row! The Chapter continues to recognize the importance of aligning our programs with the Striving for Excellence (SFE) criteria and SMPS National’s Strategic Plan thus resulting in a year of improved programs and growth. Through the continued support of the local A/E/C community, we have: increased membership, increased the number of programs offered by the Chapter, increased the number of free-to-members programs, increased attendance at programs, and increased our sponsorship. The DC Chapter is proud of what we have accomplished. We have worked hard and with clear focus to initiate positive change, new growth and improvements we will build on to provide uncompromising value to our members. Special thanks to Joe Monahan of Alpha Corporation for leading the 2011 SFE committee, and whose hard work and coordination with his committee members resulted in this year’s winning submittal. Local Firms Bring Home MCA Awards

Noel Carson and Marilynn Mendell MCA Awards Not only was the Chapter recognized for outstanding achievements at this year’s national conference – SMPS DC member Marilynn Mendell (Win Spin CIC, Inc.), and Noel Carson (Hickock Cole) accepted two Marketing Communications Awards in the Promotional Campaign and Special Event categories for Hickock Cole Architects of Washington, DC. SMPS DC would also like to congratulate HITT Construction of Falls Church, VA for their Marketing Communications Award in the Advertising category.

Bringing Back the Best of Build Business for all

The SMPS DC leadership truly appreciates the enthusiasm of our Chapter members who were able to attend Build Business to take advantage of the excellent educational and networking opportunities provided by SMPS National and to celebrate. We understand, however, that a large portion of our membership could not attend due to cost constraints and busy work schedules, and the Chapter is committed to sharing the benefits of Build Business with everyone.
