2017 DC Chapter Board of Directors Call for Nominations
March 20, 2017
Dear SMPS Members:
On behalf of the Washington, DC Chapter Nominations and Elections Committee, I invite your nominations for open positions on the 2017-2018 Chapter Board of Directors. This call for nominations is an opportunity for you to help share in our chapter’s leadership. We hope you will thoughtfully consider who you would like championing the Chapter’s efforts and invite you to nominate yourself.
What can a leader on the chapter board expect?
The Board of Directors makes decisions regarding the chapter’s programs, financial health, community involvement and priorities. The Board is comprised of the President, President-Elect, Past President, Secretary, Treasurer, Directors-at-Large and Alternates.
The Directors-at-Large serve two-year terms and chair one of the following committees: Lunch Programs, Education, Principals Roundtable, Special Events, Career Advancement, PR/Communications, Membership, Sponsorship and Community Outreach. Chapter Alternates are elected for one-year terms and may be nominated to continue service on the board as a Director. To be eligible for election as a director or alternate, the nominee must be a member in good standing as of our June end-of-year program/event.
To be eligible for the positions of President and President-Elect, a member must have a minimum of one year of service on the board. To be eligible for positions of Secretary and Treasurer, a member must have served on the board as a voting member or an alternate. The President and President-Elect positions are one-year terms and the secretary and treasurer are two-year terms.
Our board members are expected to commit approximately 15 hours a month to SMPS, primarily for committee meetings, attendance at monthly board meetings and chapter programs.
As the current President-Elect of the DC Chapter, I chair the Nominations and Elections Committee and will be joined by our current President, Laura Ewan, and four other members representing the diversity and leadership of our chapter. The election of the new board will be held at the upcoming June end-of-year awards program and celebration. The new board will hold two planning sessions over the summer. All new board member terms begin September 1, 2017.
On or before Wednesday, April 19, 2017, please email your nominations (using the attached nomination form below) to me at email@example.com. Remember that you are welcome and encouraged to nominate yourself. Please don’t hesitate to contact me (703-317-6272) if you have any questions.
I look forward to receiving your nominations and appreciate your continued support of the Washington, DC chapter.
Pipper Mosley, CPSM
