Connecting Members While Giving Back at The Children’s Inn
On October 3, a group of 14 SMPS DC volunteers served a monster-themed dinner at The Children’s Inn at NIH for approximately 40 sick children and their families. The Inn provides housing and programming for families with sick children participating in leading-edge studies at the NIH Clinical Center. For a couple of hours, we were able to distract these families from tests and treatments by playing games, designing jack-o-lanterns, and enjoying a delicious meal.
This is the sixth event that SMPS DC has participated in at The Children’s Inn since 2013. You might be wondering what this has to do with A/E/C marketing and why SMPS invests time and resources into participating in these events. SMPS’s mission is to advocate for, educate, and connect leaders in the building industry. I can’t think of a better way to develop relationships with like-minded peers. Participating in these events fulfills my own innate need to give back and provides an opportunity to meet other members, learn about firms in the industry, and gain advice and insight about the challenges facing an A/E/C marketer.
If you haven’t participated already, I encourage you to sign up for the next community outreach event. A big thank you to O’Connor Construction Management for sponsoring the dinner and to all who participated! And a special thank you to Melissa Blum, who organizes these events each year, so that we can connect with our peers while giving back to our community.
