On behalf of the SMPS Washington, D.C. Chapter Nominations and Elections Committee, I invite your nominations for open positions on the 2020–2021 Chapter Board of Directors. This call for nominations is an opportunity for you to help select our chapter’s future leaders. We hope you will thoughtfully consider who you would like to champion the chapter’s efforts and invite you to nominate yourself or your peers.

What can a leader on the Chapter board expect?

The Board of Directors makes decisions regarding the chapter’s programs, financial health, community involvement and priorities. The Board is comprised of the President, President-Elect**, Past President, Secretary**, Treasurer, and Directors-at-Large.

The Directors-at-Large serve two-year terms and chair one of the following committees:

  • Career Advancement
  • Communications/PR**
  • Community Outreach
  • Education**
  • Membership
  • Principals Roundtable/Senior Marketers Roundtable**
  • Procurement
  • Special Events**
  • Sponsorship**
  • Assistant Treasurer**

To be eligible for election as a Director-at-Large, the Nominee must be a member in good standing as of June 2020. Director-at-Large positions have a term limit of two consecutive two-year terms, unless nominated to serve as an officer.

To be eligible for positions of Secretary and Treasurer, a member must have served on the Board as a voting member. The President and President-Elect positions are one-year terms, while the Secretary and Treasurer positions are two-year terms.

This year, we’re also looking to fill a new position, Assistant Treasurer.** The Assistant Treasurerwill work closely with the Treasurer for a one-year term (2020-2021), to be followed by a two-year term as Treasurer (2021-2023).

Board members are expected to commit 10 to 15 hours each month to SMPS, primarily for committee meetings, monthly Board meetings, and chapter programs.

How does the nomination process work?

As the current President-Elect, I chair the Nominations and Elections Committee and will be joined by our President, Jen Bottomley, CPSM, and four other members with 2+ years of experience who represent the diversity and leadership of our chapter.
