The program was geared towards members who were new to the AEC industry, in construction, or in other building roles who were looking to understand the design process.

Our panelists included Gensler’s Associate and Southeast Design Realizations Leader Pamela Sams, Cardno’s Project Director Larisa Ramich, and GHT Limited’s Associate and Senior Mechanical Engineer Jim White. They touched on the roles of architects, structural engineers, and MEP engineers and shared their perspectives on the design process. The attendees learned about how architects and engineers collaborate on exercises from envisioning the design to analyzing the designed building features to reducing cost of construction. We were able to see all three perspectives on the design process as Larisa talked about the design challenges on their recent Tysons Tower project from a structural engineer’s perspective while Pamela guided us in thinking about buildings in an abstract way. Jim also shared valuable knowledge about energy savings and the latest trends and technologies that can significantly impact cost.

The program concluded with a Q&A and attendees walked away just a bit more savvy about the different roles of the project team members in the industry.
