Clean Fun at Dirty Habit

Taking a moment to step outside our offices and connect, SMPS DC members gathered by the National Portrait Gallery at Dirty Habit DC for some drinks, tasty bites, lively networking, and a chance to catch up with industry friends. Event sponsors RK&K Engineers and Walter P Moore, along with drink sponsor Samaha, helped ensure the right ambiance for this inauguration of the 2019-2020 program year. Comfy lounge chairs, crispy chicken sliders, and passed truffle fries allowed us all to have a little fun and indulge while focusing on this year’s chapter goals.

Jen Bottomley, SMPS DC’s new President, took a moment to introduce the new Board of Directors, and explain the chapter mission. Flanked by representatives from the national headquarters in Alexandria, Jen explained how at their summer goal-setting session, chapter leaders agreed to center the theme for the upcoming year around the SMPS Striving for Excellence guidelines.

This year, we should focus on both recruiting new SMPS devotees and getting current members more involved. DC is looking at increasing membership numbers and retention rates, particularly from local A/E/C firms. In an effort to help with the latter goal, we are endeavoring to structure programming that specifically addresses the interests and needs of more senior-level marketers and business developers.

Currently, the DC Chapter ranks #1 in the country when it comes to our number of CPSMs! This year, Jen and the Board are looking to help us hold onto that title by continuing to fine tune and improve CPSM bootcamp. We also need extra volunteers to properly staff our committees with engaged local professionals doing work for the chapter they find fulfilling outside of the office.

SMPS National then raffled off a few fun swag items and some choice motivational reading material to some lucky attendees. We couldn’t have asked for better weather or better people with whom to launch another spectacular year for SMPS DC.
