A group of SMPS DC members braved the blustery wind to tour 17FIFTY, a Class A office space in Reston Town Center that will soon be the new headquarters of Leidos, Inc. The hard hat tour was led by Brittany Otis and Andrew Willingham, project managers from HITT, the general contractor on the project. 17FIFTY is owned by Boston Properties and was designed by Shalom Baranes Architects.

The site was originally home to a three-story FedEx building that was demolished in January 2017 to make way for 17FIFTY. The new building will be eighteen stories with a mainly glass façade, two terraces, and a penthouse for employees to enjoy at their leisure.

Security and A/V were huge components to the project. The building will be a high security facility with no access to the public. Guard booths and gates are included at all access points. Employees will navigate by using key fobs. Numerous amounts of TV monitors will be installed, to include a colossal screen in the first floor conference room.

HITT experienced many change orders during construction, such as a new sculpture commissioned by a famous artist and a feature staircase in the main lobby. HITT was able to find solutions to stay on track and anticipate move-in to begin in March 2020.

Although it was chilly on the terrace, the group couldn’t pass up the chance to check it out. The height of the building allows for captivating views of Reston Town Center, as well as Tysons and DC off in the distance. With its meticulously designed unique features, 17FIFTY is set to become an iconic piece of the community.
