Against the backdrop of what felt like the first day of spring, SMPS DC held its annual New Member Spring Event at LandDesign’s office in Alexandria. Similar to the New Member Breakfast held each fall, this event is designed for new members as well as those looking to join SMPS. It gives prospective and new members a better understanding of what SMPS is all about and how the organization can help their professional growth as well as their company’s bottom line.

The event started with networking among new members and board members while snacking on appetizers and enjoying free drinks.

After networking, SMPS DC President Pipper Mosley officially welcomed all in attendance and started the program. She provided a brief overview of upcoming events, including our Summer Celebration on June 13, and discussed the different programs specifically designed for new members, including Guru Guidance. New members also heard from members of each committee about what each committee does and how new members can get involved. Then it was on to the cornhole tournament and prizes; this year, by suggestion, we held our first-ever cornhole tournament. Each team was comprised of new members and board members, allowing the new members to get to know the board members, learn about different committees, and determine how to get the most out of their membership.

While each team gave it their best, team members Pipper Mosley, Bianca Girazian, Matt Brassard and Nick Fornadel won the championship. To end the evening’s festivities, we raffled off several great prizes, including an SMPS Knowledge Kit donated by SMPS Headquarters.

All in all, it was a successful evening filled with fun, learning, and the start of new relationships for many of our new members.
