About 40 AEC professionals gathered at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle in City Center DC to learn how to “Pitch the Press” from Liz Wainger, one of the area’s most respected public relations professionals. Liz wears multiple hats, acting as a strategist, consultant, executive coach and public speaker. With more than 20 years of experience in communications and marketing, she has served on the Metro and Style desks for the Washington Post and currently blogs for the Huffington Post. Beyond that, her work has appeared in several other professional publications.

Liz began her presentation by putting the audience in the shoes of a reporter. From their impossible deadlines to fierce competition, understanding the daily pressures the media is under is just the first step to getting your news heard. What’s next? The right content. Liz went into detail about what the media want, including her top three newsworthy traits. She explained how to craft the perfect pitch and how to get that pitch in front of journalists, which sometimes requires looking outside the box. Targeting journalists that you may not typically pitch, such as travel or wellness, may be the key to headline-making news!

Liz’s approach to her presentation was unique; you could feel her passion for her work come to life with each slide. Her information was witty, interactive and captivating, which left all of the participants feeling like they had a new insight into the world of journalism.
