SMPS DC and SAME (Society of American Military Engineers) NoVA Post were excited to come together in their first co-sponsored event in late February. Both organizations have seen the synergy between our respective groups over the years, and this event provided an opportunity to finally make introductions at both the Board and member level in an informal setting.

With the help of our event sponsors Clark Construction Group and Polu Kai Services and drink sponsor GORDON, we found ourselves in the heart of Falls Church at Falls Church Distillers for a bourbon tasting and networking event. Owner Mike Paluzzi, an Air Force veteran himself, provided his great distillery space, with a full bar and restaurant, for us to come together and network. The open space was great for lots of conversations in catching up with friends and meeting new contacts. A large spread of Italian appetizers was enjoyed by all.

Justin Jacobs, SMPS DC Chapter President, and Jeannine Nelson, SAME NoVA Post President, both shared their excitement for the two Societies to finally come together and see how the chapters and its members can benefit each other. They both shared upcoming events that their Society has coming up and other events that people are able to participate in.

Mike provided a tour of his distillery where we learned the difference in the process of making bourbon, vodka and whiskey and the importance of clean water! During the event everyone was able to taste one of his spirits or enjoy a cocktail mix.

Additionally, during the event, members were able to participate in the 50/50 raffle. The profits from the raffle will be split between the two Societies to go toward their scholarship funds. Thank you again to our sponsors for helping us to be able to put on a great event!
