Let's Get To It...

What got you into the AEC industry and what keeps you here? I was working for the government and did not like what I was doing. I was looking for something more creative and saw an opportunity with an A/E firm. I love the excitement of working on client deliverables for some of the most iconic buildings in the area.

When and why did you first join SMPS, and what keeps you coming back? I joined SMPS because Dianne Schachner told me to. I was new to the industry and an introvert at SMPS events. She knew it would help me grow in my career and it has served me well these 25+ years later.

What advice do you have for our newer SMPS DC members about getting the most out of their membership? Get involved. Attending events is great, but start working on committees. The opportunities to really get engaged is extraordinary.

What has been your favorite SMPS DC or SMPS event? The Holiday Party. I’ve always liked the community outreach component coupled with a celebration.

What part of the SMPS mission to Advocate, Educate, and Connect most resonates with you and why? Connect. Everything we do in this business hinges on the aspect of a connection. Without that, it’s quite hard to advocate and educate.

What is your favorite SMPS DC memory? My favorite memory is from when I was President - we were awarded our first Striving for Excellence Award as a large chapter.
