Let's Get To It...

What got you into the AEC industry and what keeps you here?
I grew up in Florida, surrounded by growth, real estate, tourism, etc., which in retrospect I know had an influence on my ability to connect the dots as a relationship builder in the AEC industry. I appreciate being part of the big picture and achieving results for my firm.

When and why did you first join SMPS, and what keeps you coming back?
I joined SMPS in 2000 in the Central Florida Chapter. Those relationships have remained invaluable and I now find myself in the mentor role for several new leaders in the industry.

What advice do you have for our newer SMPS DC members about getting the most out of their membership?
SMPS is integral to your growth in this industry. There is no other member organization like it that is peer-to-peer and will provide insight across disciplines.

What has been your favorite SMPS DC or SMPS event?
Build Business continues to be the ultimate information gathering session each year. However, the individual committee meetings, the local events, etc. that allows us to build relationships and help one another are always enjoyed.

What part of the SMPS mission to Advocate, Educate, and Connect most resonates with you and why?
The role of Marketing Professional in this industry has changed dramatically since I began in the late 90s. This is a career and the role of Business Development and Marketing Communications is essential to firms to achieve excellence. As a career professional, SMPS gives me the opportunity to support and give back to the next wave of leaders.

Best work-related advice you’ve ever gotten?
I cannot recall advice I’ve been given that has directly affected my career decisions. However, the best work related advice I’ve “given” is find a place where you can bring your talent and with that talent you can make a difference.
