Let's Get To It...

What got you into the AEC industry and what keeps you here?
I started in the aerospace and DoD industry, primarily focused on marketing intelligence and warfighter technology. I really wanted to tie myself to company success in the form of business development. In that industry, only ex-military or those with clearances and relationships at the Pentagon could hold that role. The AEC industry provides such an open network for everyone to succeed, which is why I have remained for 11 years.

What advice do you have for our newer SMPS DC members about getting the most out of their membership?
As with anything, regular engagement is key. Whether it’s joining a committee, or just making it out to networking events, regular engagement keeps you plugged into SMPS and/or business opportunities ahead of many others.

What part of the SMPS mission to Advocate, Educate, and Connect most resonates with you and why?
Connect really hits home with myself and many others, but over the last several years, I see Advocate as a vital element of the SMPS mission. We as marketing/BD professionals need to advocate for ourselves and the value that we bring to our firms. SMPS is a great platform for that, and the DC chapter is leading the way with future programming to help show our true ROI to the executives of our respective companies and the AEC industry as a whole.

Best work-related advice you’ve ever gotten?
It’s better to have 10% of a winning team, than 100% of a losing one.
