Favorite movie: Tough question; I have over 20 favorites. But I watch Mean Girls every year with my best friend, wine (or margaritas) and cheese.

Let's Get To It...

What inspired you to join SMPS and what are you hoping to get out of your membership
My supervisor recommended I join the organization as I familiarized myself with the industry. It’s now been a year and I couldn’t have made a better decision. I am hoping to continuously learn ways in which I can elevate deliverables for my firm as well as building a network of friends who share my wins and struggles.

What has been the most valuable part of your membership so far?
Being a member of the PR and Communications Committee has been quite rewarding.

What got you into the AEC industry and what keeps you here?
I’ve always had an interest for architecture and while I didn’t target this industry during my job search, I am very pleased this is where I landed. I love how there is never a dull day and am proud of working for a firm that makes an impact in the community through its work.

What has been your favorite SMPS DC or SMPS event?
Nothing tops Kickoff Events!

What part of the SMPS mission to Advocate, Educate, and Connect most resonates with you and why?
Educate: I had no background or knowledge of the A/E/C industry, and SMPS (national and local) have been to this day, instrumental in me being able to do my job well and deliver on the challenging projects this industry demands.

What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned through SMPS (an event, speaker, or fellow member)?
Understanding the value of voice and brand in the proposal preparation process.

Best work-related advice you’ve ever gotten?
Always have a plan.

Who is your professional idol? Why?
Tim Cook is my professional idol. While it might sound cliché or expected, Apple is a true brand visionary. They’ve taken a product line and woefully created an intrinsic value that connects its use to our every day life. In doing so, they have created a need rather than a wish, for apple products in the household; otherwise known as lifestyle marketing. Everyone can learn something from Apple.
