Let's Get to It

What inspired you to join SMPS and what are you hoping to get out of your membership? I was new to the AEC industry and learned about SMPS through my boss at the time. I thought it would be a great networking and professional development opportunity as well as a good marketing resource.

What has been the most valuable part of your membership so far? For me, it’s been all about the relationships. My first boss in the industry was really involved in the chapter, and encouraged me to get out and meet people. It was through those initial connections that I was able to seek out volunteer opportunities, and take the next step in my career.

What has been your favorite SMPS DC or SMPS event? I attended the 2016 Summer Celebration and it really renewed this spark in me to get the most out of my career. From there, I wanted to get more involved so I joined the Community Outreach Committee.

What part of the SMPS mission to Advocate, Educate, and Connect most resonates with you and why? I think Connect resonates most with me. In such a short amount of time I’ve been able to meet new colleagues and develop friendships, sharpen my marketing and communication skills, and learn how to confidently network in a room full of strangers.

What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned through SMPS (an event, speaker, or fellow member)? The first education session I attended was the Marketing Coordinator Bootcamp Series. The 4-part series helped me refine and sharpen basic skills that are needed to successfully navigate and grow in the challenging world of AEC marketing. The seasoned marketers that led these sessions provided countless best practices, tricks of the trade, and words of wisdom that I still use today.
