Let’s Get To It…..

What inspired you to join SMPS and what are you hoping to get out of your membership?

I didn’t even know about SMPS until 2012 and a friend suggested I attend the Christmas party to experience the group. I immediately felt welcome and, by being on the mailing list and started seeing seminars/events that were exactly what I needed, I finally decided to join as a full member last January. I like the connections I have made at SMPS DC and other chapters across the country, along with the excellent educational content provided.

What has been the most valuable part of your membership so far?

I have worked in construction my adult life, but in a sales role. When I transitioned to working for consultants, I knew nothing about teaming, resumes, project profiles or technical proposals. The marketing and proposal content provided has been extremely helpful in my career growth and to educate our Seller/Doer technical managers.

What got you into the AEC industry and what keeps you here?

Legos! I loved building houses and other buildings as a child and wanted to be a part of this industry.

What has been your favorite SMPS DC or SMPS event?

The casual Christmas parties.

What part of the SMPS mission to Advocate, Educate, and Connect most resonates with you and why?

The education aspect has been most valuable to me as mentioned in previous comments.

What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned through SMPS (an event, speaker, or fellow member)?

2020's Event on Virtual presentations, lighting, and practicing to address any technical issues that arise during your presentation.
