The holiday season is in full swing and we want to take a moment to reflect and celebrate all of our successes and accomplishments in 2017 while gearing up for an exciting program in 2018! A couple of key accomplishments over the past year include celebrating our 35th anniversary, launching our new website, developing a brand new Leadership Development Series, and building momentum in our other networking, educational and career advancement programs. The new year is about change and bettering ourselves so I challenge everyone to make a shared resolution to commit, plan and succeed.

SMPS is committed to you, the member, by planning superior programs and special events, facilitating exceptional training, and helping our members make business connections across organizations and markets. With a little commitment on your part, SMPS DC can help you to recharge and focus on what matters the most for a successful marketing career – whether it involves setting personal career goals such as earning your CPSM certification, learning new skills and best practices at an educational or SMaRT event, or attaining business intelligence and developing connections at a Lunch and Leads event.

In addition to committing to yourself, you can make SMPS one of the great organizations to be a part of by committing to helping others through mentorship – our year-long Guru Guidance program is off to a great start with over 22 pairings of mentors and mentees. Check out our upcoming calendar for the kick-off of the CPSM study group and the subsequent series of boot camp meetings – offered to all SMPS DC members free of charge.

This is the season for making plans for the new year! Please take a few minutes to consider how you can obtain the most from your SMPS membership. Plan to attend an event, volunteer, make a new connection, and learn or practice a new skill.

Be sure to report back to your firm leadership on new connections and business leads made at our first ever Networking Roundtable Lunch. If you were unable to attend this sold-out event, then plan to attend the next roundtable lunch, which we will host in the spring.

May I also suggest that you register now for Merge, the Northeast Regional Conference being held this March in Baltimore, and mark your calendars for the National Build Business Conference in beautiful San Diego this August. Attending one of these events will provide great opportunities to use new skills you learned during the year and develop your networking ability.

While planning marketing budgets for your organizations in 2018, please consider becoming a chapter sponsor. We offer different sponsor levels that provide great benefits and exposure to fit any budget.

SMPS DC wants to be a part of celebrating your marketing successes and an excellent way to showcase the best of the best marketing is with our MCA (Marketing Communications Awards) program. With multiple categories, you can submit in one or any combination of entry categories, but please note that the MCA call for entries closes January 31 – so don’t delay in filling out your nomination forms. The MCA event will be held in February - more details to come about that in next month’s blog.

Our upcoming calendar offers events to help position you for success. We have impactful programs in the works for marketing professionals at every level of their career. We’re also excited to team up with Women in Healthcare and SMPS Maryland for a joint organization Lunch and Leads program on the healthcare market in February. We'll post registration information and program details soon.

I wish I could personally recognize each member, volunteer and board member who has positively impacted SMPS DC in 2017 to make it such a success, but I can only send a heartfelt thanks. I also wish everyone happy holidays and nothing but success in the new year!
