February may be the shortest month of the year, but SMPS DC has been busy developing great programming for you! In fact, we as a chapter cannot fulfill our mission without all of you. No matter where you are in your career, SMPS strives to bring networking and event opportunities that forge new business relationships, better client and market understanding and refine marketing skills to grow our businesses. It’s never too early or late to engage and celebrate the spirit and heart of SMPS!

January Programming Recap

For example, our Community Outreach committee and volunteers created and donated more than 200 Thoughtful Treasures gifts to the Children's Inn at NIH on January 24. The Thoughtful Treasures program offers each patient a welcome bag of “treasures” to help keep the children entertained during their NIH visit and medical treatments. Look for more volunteer opportunities this spring.

Judging is currently underway for our chapter's Marketing Communications Awards, and stay tuned for the new, innovative ways we will celebrate and feature the amazing work produced by professional services marketers in the metropolitan Washington, DC area.

We hope you all enjoyed the 2018 CPSM Week and found time to Up Your Game! Our CPSM Bootcamp study group is off to a great start, and it’s still not too late to join! Complimentary for our members, CPSM Bootcamp is a series of study sessions via in-person and virtual meetings to help prepare participants for the exam. The Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) credential is a voluntary certification designed to elevate the professional standards in marketing and influence the best practices.

Upcoming Programs and Events

Our calendar is full of upcoming events and programs to enhance your SMPS experience, including:

On February 8, SMPS DC joined forces with the SMPS Maryland chapter and Women in Healthcare to bring you a dynamic Lunch and Leads program on the Future of Regional Healthcare Construction discussed by representatives from leading healthcare institutions.

Join us on February 20 for an education program on Dissecting RFPs: Mapping Your Way to Proposal Compliance. This program will take you step-by-step through dissecting the RFP and developing a comprehensive outline that addresses all of the proposal requirements, evaluation criteria, consultants, deliverables and pursuit calendar.

The Washington, DC region is ripe with new economic development opportunities in office, housing, athletics, the arts, and more. From the potential Amazon HQ2 to micro hotels, our region is undergoing rapid change. But what does all of this mean? Join our Principals Round Table committee as they host the “If You Build It, Will They Come?” event on February 27.

Join us for the 2018 SMPS Northeast Regional Conference: MERGE

Do you really want to immerse yourself in the love for the profession of marketing? Then join us at the MERGE Conference, which will attract more than 350 of the region’s top AEC marketing, business development, and firm leaders for three days of learning, networking, and inspiration. MERGE is the theme of the 2018 SMPS Northeast Regional Conference being held March 21-23 in Baltimore, Maryland. This conference is supported by SMPS chapters in Boston, Central Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, New York, Northern New England, Philadelphia, Upstate New York, and Washington, DC.

While the country’s most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil may have seen his shadow, let's use the remaining weeks of winter finding ways to stay connected! I encourage you to engage in all that SMPS DC has to offer — enhance your membership experience though volunteering and position for greater career success through education and networking. We are all here to support, advocate for, and celebrate you, our members!

Kind regards,
