Spring is in the air, and we’re just a few short weeks from its start on March 20! Spring is also the season of new growth, with signs of change are all around us. Flowers start to blossom, and the days are longer, brighter and warmer. The season is a wonderful time to look ahead and spring clean your resume and career plans – whether you’re striving for a promotion, determining how to work smarter with your marketing team, or considering pursuing a completely new career track.

New beginnings, new personal growth

Ultimately, SMPS DC would like to encourage you to explore and develop leadership and growth opportunities this season. Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate what fires you up and which talents and strengths you have to offer. Write down the qualities, skills and attributes that describe you as a leader. This personal assessment could lead to discovering new skills or work opportunities that you could expand upon. Check out a few suggestions below to start get started.

Get additional training

You may find that you have skills gaps, talents, or interests that you just don’t get to use in your day-to-day job – consider volunteering with SMPS DC to help broaden your skill set and open new outlets for your creativity. Make a personal investment in skill and leadership training by checking our website for upcoming event announcements from both our Education and Career Advancement committees. No matter where you are in your career development, SMPS DC has you covered!

Our multi-session Leadership Development Series is designed to enhance the leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills of marketing and business development professionals in new or mid-manager roles. Don’t miss the chance to meet, mingle and learn from inspiring thought-leaders, marketers and business developers from across the East Coast at the SMPS Northeast Regional Conference in Baltimore March 21-23. If you can’t make it to the full conference, consider one of the informative workshops or networking events offered separately.

Get (and stay) engaged

On April 4, SMPS DC’s Procurement committee will present Developers in the DMV Luncheon. Representatives from the area's largest development firms will share their insight and future planning and development project opportunities in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. This program is sure to be popular!

Members-only events this spring include our tour of the American Geophysical Union Headquarters, one of the first net zero buildings in DC, on April 10. Sign up quickly – only a few spaces are still available for this complimentary event.

If you’ve joined the DC chapter in the last 18 months, our New Member Spring Event on April 12 is for you! This free, members-only event will give you a chance to meet and mingle with the Board, committee volunteers and other new members in a fun, relaxed atmosphere while enjoying food, drinks and games.
