In addition to being an extra-large chapter of the Society, SMPS DC has been honored with a number of national awards and honors throughout our 35-year history! This has only been made possible by the hard work, dedication, and generosity of our members, volunteers, sponsors, speakers and chapter leaders.

Awards and Grants

Building upon this tradition of excellence – we are proud to recognize our members’ current contributions through several annual awards and grants. Please review the current Call for Chapter Grants and Awards, to include the Rising Star Award, the Pay-It-Forward Grant, the newly-created Pinnacle Experience Grant and the Ginny Solomon Golden Tuba Award. Self-nominations are encouraged. All applications are due by May 21.

Events and Programs

A great business leader needs to stay abreast of current market conditions and on May 30, we will host another highly popular Lunch and Leads Program on the data center market. This event was re-scheduled to May 30, so there is still time to invite others from within your firm interested in learning more about the DMV’s role in this dynamic market.

Our Leadership Development Series is well underway and each session is facilitated by a highly experienced industry leader. The next couple of sessions will cover the topics of Relationship Building (May 15) led by Laura Ewan, CPSM and SMPS DC Past President, and Action Planning (May 29) led by Amy Cuddy, CPSM and SMPS DC Past Career Advancement Director.

Kudos to our Community Outreach committee for organizing participants for the DCA Honor Flight Greeting on Saturday, May 5 and making it a great success. We greeted World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans as they arrived at Reagan National Airport to visit the monument that reflected their service. For a lot of veterans, the Honor Flight program is the only way they are able to visit these monuments to reflect on their sacrifice as well as those who paid the ultimate price. The next Community Outreach event will be the JDRF Real Estate Games on June 7th at American University.

And if you haven’t already, please register and join us for our Summer Celebration event on June 13. This not-to-miss event will highlight the chapter’s activities and accomplishments for this 35th anniversary year and include the election of the 2018/19 Board of Directors, recognition of the Marketing Communications Awards program winners, and the announcement of recipients for our numerous awards, including the chapter’s highest honor, the Ginny Solomon Golden Tuba Award.

It is not too early to get your foursomes together for our Mulligan’s Island Golf Tour summer golf outing on July 23! Jointly sponsored with AIA Northern Virginia, we have a full day of golf, networking, themed-costume contest and fun prizes planned. If golf is not your strong suit, don’t worry! Join us for an evening barbecue reception. Early-bird registration discounts and sponsorship opportunities are available.

Finally, we’re working hard on our summer calendar, so stay tuned for upcoming exciting events and programs.
