SMPS DC and The Design and Construction Network take on the JDRF Real Estate Games
Over the past 23 years the JDRF Real Estate Games have helped raise more than $5 million to benefit research efforts for a cure to Type 1 diabetes. Over 1,900 professionals from the DC area commercial real estate community competed against one another in the all-day Olympic style sporting event held at American University. The SMPS DC Community Outreach Committee joined forces with The Design and Construction Network and formed a team comprised of professionals from eleven local companies ready to tackle events that ranged from a 5k, tennis, and volleyball to table tennis and a seated office chair hockey tournament. This year’s event raised $425,000 for JDRF and the SMPSdc/DCN team took home first place in “The Main Event.”
JDRF is dedicated to funding research to find a cure for type 1 diabetes, which strikes children and adults suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. JDRF’s sole function is to support research to find a cure for type 1 diabetes soon. In a typical year, more than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
