SMPS DC Chapter Call for Award Nominations and Grant Applications

Dear SMPS DC chapter members,

This is the official call for nominations for the Rising Star and Golden Tuba awards, and for applications for the Pay-It-Forward grant to attend Build Business and, new this year, for the Pinnacle Experience grant. Please review the information below and in the attached packet and make sure to apply by the 5pm deadline on May 21, 2018.

Rising Star Award Nomination

The Rising Star Award honors a current member of the SMPS DC chapter who has worked in the AEC marketing profession for less than five years, who has demonstrated a commitment to the field of marketing professional services, and who has shown an aptitude for leadership through involvement in and contributions to the DC chapter.

Who is eligible?

  • Any individual with less than five years of experience in the design, construction, real estate, and/or related consulting field who is a current member of SMPS DC
  • Any individual who has demonstrated a commitment to the field of professional services marketing through involvement in and contributions to SMPS DC
  • Current SMPS DC board members are not eligible, nor are past recipients of the award

What is required for nomination?

  • Completed nomination form (see link at bottom of page to download)
  • Cover letter stating why the individual is being nominated
  • Supporting documentation regarding nominee's professional achievements, honors, and awards (two-page limit)

The Ginny Solomon Golden Tuba Award Nomination

The Ginny Solomon Golden Tuba Award salutes an SMPS DC member whose career, achievements, and contributions to the field of marketing professional services have been exemplary.

Who is eligible?

  • Any individual in the design, construction, real estate, and related consulting fields who has current or prior SMPS membership and has made significant contributions to the DC chapter
  • Any individual who has made a significant contribution to the marketing of professional services arena by virtue of his/her outstanding advancement of the marketing profession
  • Any individual whose accomplishments honor the profession and set the standard for excellence
  • Current SMPS DC board members are not eligible, nor are past recipients of the award

What is required for nomination?

  • Completed nomination form (see link at bottom of page to download)
  • Cover letter stating why the individual is being nominated
  • Supporting documentation regarding nominee's professional achievements, honors, and awards (two-page limit)

Pay It Forward Grant for Build Business

You want to go to the 2018 SMPS National Build Business Conference in San Diego, but it’s just not in the budget this year? SMPS DC has created the Pay-it-Forward Grant covering:

  • Full conference registration (a $1,290 value)
  • Roundtrip airfare/transportation (up to $550 reimbursed)
  • Three-night hotel stay
  • Miscellaneous meals (up to $50 reimbursed)

Who is eligible?

  • Any active member of the DC chapter involved in a committee or other active support of chapter operations
  • Minimum of 2 years continuous SMPS DC membership
  • Current SMPS DC board members are not eligible, nor are past recipients of the grant

What is required for the application?

  1. Completed application form (see link at bottom of page to download)
  2. Letter from your supervisor supporting your attendance and participation at Build Business Conference, August 15-17, 2018, should you receive the grant
  3. Letter of reference from a current or former DC chapter board member
  4. Summary of your SMPS DC chapter activities and involvement to date
  5. Responses to the following questions (limited to one page):
    1. How has SMPS benefited you personally and professionally?
    2. What do you hope to gain from attending the conference?
    3. Where does SMPS bring you the most value?
    4. If you have anything else to share with the selection committee please include here.
  6. Statement of understanding that you will be required to attend a pre-conference happy hour, live tweet from the conference, compose a post conference blog post on the Best of Build Business and speak briefly at Chapter events to share your impression and experience at Build Business, and your agreement to do so
  7. Description (limited to one page) of your commitment to “pay-it-forward” to the entire DC chapter upon your return from the Build Business. Identify an idea, activity or event/program that you commit to completing within four months of the conference, for the purpose of sharing what you have learned from the conference. Any event with non-paid speakers (aka fellow conference attendees) should be discussed with and organized prior to the conference to allow for adequate speaker preparation.

The Pinnacle Experience Grant

The SMPS Pinnacle Experience is the Society's newest event designed for senior marketing leaders, specifically for professionals with significant experience (10-15+ years) who serve as the "first chair" for leading their firm's marketing and business development efforts. This may include CEOs, CMOs, directors, principals, vice presidents, and SMPS Fellows. The symposium-style event provides thought-provoking learning and networking opportunities for the participants.

New this year, the SMPS Pinnacle Experience grant covers:

  • Full event registration (a $950 value)
  • Roundtrip airfare/transportation (up to $550 reimbursed)
  • Three-night hotel stay
  • Miscellaneous meals (up to $75 reimbursed)

Who is eligible?

  • Active members of the SMPS DC chapter involved in a committee or other active support of chapter operations
  • Current DC chapter member with a minimum of 10 years of AEC experience and five years of continuous SMPS DC membership
  • Additional consideration will be given to those with CPSM accreditation
  • Current SMPS DC board members are not eligible

What is required for the application?

  1. Completed application form (see link at bottom of page to download)
  2. Letter from your supervisor supporting your attendance and participation in the Pinnacle Experience, held October 17-19, 2018 in Dallas, Texas, should you receive the grant
  3. Letter of reference from a current or former DC chapter board member
  4. Summary of your SMPS DC chapter activities and involvement to date
  5. Responses to the following questions (limit to one page):
    1. How has SMPS benefitted you personally and professionally?
    2. What do you hope to gain from attending the Pinnacle Experience?
    3. Where does SMPS bring you the most value?
    4. What value have you seen from obtaining your CPSM?
    5. Other? If you feel you have anything else of value to share with the selection committee, please include here.
  6. Statement acknowledging that you will be required to compose a post-event blog on best practices learned at the Pinnacle Experience (to be shared on the SMPS DC blog) and that you may be asked to speak briefly at chapter events to share your impressions and experience at the Pinnacle Experience with others, and your agreement to do so
