Members of SMPS DC traveled to The Children’s Inn, located on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda to serve dinner to the 60+ sick children and their families staying at the Inn. The volunteers provided a wonderful opportunity for families to eat together and ease the stress of adjusting to a new environment. The Children’s Inn at NIH is a residential “place like home” for sick children and their families. Kids come from across the country and around the world to stay together with their families in The Inn’s healing environment while receiving groundbreaking medical treatments at the NIH, the world’s leading biomedical research center. While the NIH takes care of the child’s medical needs, The Inn tends to the child’s heart, soul and spirit. The volunteers succeeded in distracting the residents from the strain of travel and medical treatments with a “Hollywood Movie Star” themed evening of family, food, fun activities.
