Let’s Get To It……

What got you into the AEC industry and what keeps you here?

I had lost my marketing position with a financial firm near the end of the recession and after being out of work for almost a year, I decided to broaden my search into new industries. Once I had my interview with Gilbane, I saw an opportunity that would challenge me and allow me to work as part of a team. The relationships I have built since 2011 have been amazing and that is why I have decided to build a career in the A/E/C industry.

When and why did you first join SMPS, and what keeps you coming back?

When I was beginning my career as an A/E/C marketer at Gilbane, my coworker encouraged me to join SMPS to network, and learn more about the industry and best practices. I have continued my SMPS membership because of the valuable relationships I have built, events/educational programs, and resources.

What advice do you have for our newer SMPS DC members about getting the most out of their membership?

Attend as many events/conferences as possible and ask as many questions as you can! I have never met another member who wasn’t willing to collaborate, give feedback, or mentor in some capacity.

What has been your favorite SMPS DC or SMPS event?

It is hard to choose just one, but I would say the Regional Conferences and Build Business Conference. I was able to make valuable connections at these events, keep motivated, and benefited greatly from the educational sessions.

What part of the SMPS mission to Advocate, Educate, and Connect most resonates with you and why?

Connect! Connections are powerful and foster opportunities.

What is your favorite SMPS DC memory?

Christmas parties or golf events.

Best work-related advice you’ve ever gotten?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. This is how you learn and grow!
