Let’s Get To It……

What got you into the AEC industry and what keeps you here?

My girlfriend at that time (now my wife 😊) was working in the AEC industry and she suggested that I look for a marketing position with a local architect or engineering firm. She referred me to Schnabel Engineering which is where I ended up spending the first few years of my career. The people I work with on a daily basis and the diversity of work is what keeps me here.

When and why did you first join SMPS, and what keeps you coming back?

I joined SMPS soon after I was hired at my first job out of college. Joann Petillo hired me at Schnabel Engineering many years ago as a marketing coordinator and the first thing she said that I needed to do was to join SMPS! The connections and friendships that I have built keep me coming back!

What advice do you have for our newer SMPS DC members about getting the most out of their membership?

Get involved! Join a committee. Not only will you build a network of professional contacts within the AEC industry and create great visibility for your firm, but you will also make the best friendships.

What has been your favorite SMPS DC or SMPS event?

The SMPS Build Business Conference held back in 2012 in San Francisco. I was the President of the Washington, D.C. Chapter, and our Chapter received the Striving for Excellence Grand Prize Award! I remember being backstage with fellow boards members prior to us being called up on stage to receive the award. What a great memory!

Do you have your CPSM? If so, why did you get it and how has it impacted your career?

Yes, I received my CPSM back in 2007. I wanted to be recognized by my peers as a professional in my field. When I received my CPSM, I was immediately recognized by my employer (Alpha Corporation) and soon after even received a promotion.

What part of the SMPS mission to Advocate, Educate, and Connect most resonates with you and why?

Connect is what resonates with me. SMPS offers so many opportunities for its members to network and make new connections. I have made so many valuable connections over the years both professionally and personally through my involvement with SMPS.

What is your favorite SMPS DC memory?

Being the 2015 recipient of the Ginny Solomon Golden Tuba award! Believe it or not, I was very close to not even making it to the event that night. Good thing I did. What a great honor it was to receive this award.
