Let’s Get To It……

When and why did you first join SMPS, and what keeps you coming back?

My first day in the AEC industry I asked my boss what RFP meant. She suggested that I join SMPS DC. A decade later, I’ve been able to build a life-long career in an industry I love. SMPS provides education opportunities that keep me up-to-date on industry trends in marketing and business development, allow me to increase my overall knowledge of the industry, grow my technical skill set exponentially, and develop professionally.

What advice do you have for our newer SMPS DC members about getting the most out of their membership?

Get Involved! Volunteer as a committee member and/or join the Board of Directors. It will provide you with the experience and confidence to plan and lead large efforts with a diverse group of people. These opportunities will help you stand out when applying for a new position and/or during performance reviews and provide credibility when you’re presenting new ideas to executive-level team members.

What part of the SMPS mission to Advocate, Educate, and Connect most resonates with you and why?

Connect - My involvement in SMPS DC has been integral to my ability to build key relationships in the AEC industry, giving me direct access to potential clients and teaming partners through a wide variety of programs and events. In addition, our firm’s sponsorship and participation with multiple SMPS Chapters has provided us with invaluable firm exposure and the ability to form connections across the nation.

What is your favorite SMPS DC memory?

My favorite SMPS DC memories have been the opportunities to give back to the community where I live and work. From family dinners at The Children’s Inn at NIH to DCPS Beautification Days and the annual JDRF Real Estate Games, the ability to connect other AEC members to our local community has been the highlight of my time as a member.

Best work-related advice you’ve ever gotten?

Be a dependable teammate/employee. Work hard and never stop learning.
