Background

Charren Shepherd is an insightful, strategic, and adaptable marketing professional recognized for developing and implementing successful sales and marketing initiatives, integrating fresh ideas with practical actions. Charren possesses 30 years of progressive experience leading and directing customized, tactical, and targeted sales, marketing, and communications efforts spanning for-profit and non-profit organizations, and private and public sectors — the last 20 years in the A/E/C industry. Charren is the Marketing Director in HNTB’s Mid-Atlantic Division which covers the Washington, DC metropolitan region (DC, Maryland and Virginia), Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, and the Carolinas. She received her BA in Economics from Spelman College and her MS in Marketing from The Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School.

Sylvia Montgomery CPSM

Business Development Manager

Background

For the past 15 years, Sylvia Montgomery, CPSM has helped architecture, engineering, and construction firms elevate their expertise and position themselves in the marketplace. Her passion for client perception research provides a solid foundation for developing strategies that articulate differentiators, increase visibility, and drive growth. For nearly a decade, she led the A/E/C practice at a national branding and marketing firm where she collaborated with many of ENR’s Top Firms. After a short sabbatical, Sylvia joined one of those ENR Top Firms and is now with Timmons Group. Sylvia is a nationwide speaker and is the co-author of various marketing books.

Rebecca Starer CPSM

Marketing Services Manager

Background

Rebecca Starer, CPSM, is a marketing manager at Gilbane Building Company. She works with leadership across Washington, DC, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina to develop and implement marketing and communication strategies that drive business growth. Additionally, she works directly with Gilbane’s director of diversity and community affairs to expand and promote the company’s outreach programs and diversity initiatives. A member of SMPS DC, Becca serves on the Education committee and was recognized with the Rising Star Award in 2016 and the New Heights Volunteer Service Award in 2017. Rebecca received her B.S. in Marketing and Management from the University of Maryland.
